Declutter |
Written by Catherine Davis | |
To declutter is to get rid of all the clutter that has accumulated over the years, the stuff you no longer need, want, use, like or have room for and then organize the things you do decide to keep. On a practical level, decluttering creates space and makes it easier to find what you're looking for. This can make for a more relaxed environment because you'll feel on top of things and more in control. Decluttering can also be therapeutic. Discarding stuff we've grown out of - not only physically but emotionally – can bring a sense of freedom and fresh beginnings. In throwing out the old we make room for the new, and can move on unencumbered by excess baggage. If the task seems overwhelming, a professional clutter consultant may help you to look at your home or office with an impartial eye and encourage you to break your hoarding habits. You can sell unwanted items at a car boot sale or advertise them in a local paper. Alternatively, take the recycling route and donate them to charity, where they'll also benefit a good cause.
