Lawn Mower Racing |
Written by Catherine Davis | |
The British Lawn Mower Racing Association was founded in 1937 in a pub in West Sussex, England, and how has 250 members across the UK. As well as being a cheap and easily accessible motor sport, lawn mower racing has a strong social element, with monthly pub meetings and various events such as classic drives and treasure hunts.
There are 4 groups of racing lawn mowers: Lawn mower races are held between May and October at venues throughout England and Wales. The most famous lawn mower race is the twelve hour endurance race, which takes place between 8pm and 8am. But it doesn't stop there. Lawn mower racing is spreading, with associations cropping up all over the place, from Wigan in the Northwest to Kansas and Missouri in the Midwest and Queensland's Sunshine Coast. And in the never ending need for speed new formula are emerging, like lawn mower drag racing where they top 90mph (not one for walk-behind mowers then).
