Extracted from plants, essential oils are believed to possess distinctive therapeutic properties that work on the chemistry of the body via the skin and bloodstream to help improve health and prevent disease. Adherents claim that aromatherapy is particularly effective for relieving stress and stress related conditions such as headaches and insomnia.

Among the most popular essential oils used in aromatherapy are chamomile, lavender, rosemary and tea tree. They may be inhaled or added to bath water but are more usually applied by massage. Prior to application, the aromatherapist will ask questions about your health, lifestyle and medical history and then select the appropriate blend to suit you as an individual.

Aromatherapy massage has a specific technique that works to enhance the benefits of the oils. It covers both sides of the spine and other 'stress' areas like the shoulders, face and legs to give a relaxing treatment that encourages the body to rebalance itself.
