Endangered Animals & Species Volunteering
Written by Catherine Davis

Endangered animals and species need intervention to help them survive, and you can assist in the protection of any number of exotic species by volunteering to work overseas.

Conservation centres around the world seek volunteers to support their wildlife projects. These include habitat preservation, reforestation, rescues and rehabilitation, coral reef research, nest monitoring and working with environmental education programmes.

As well as getting close to creatures such as elephants, great apes and marine turtles which you'd otherwise only see in a zoo, volunteering to protect endangered animals will give you a fuller experience of the nature and culture of your chosen destination.

There are plenty of organisations that arrange travel expeditions focussed on protecting endangered animals, and you could combine it with a vacation - be it for a fortnight or a few months.

Numerous opportunities exist in countries including Kenya, Sri Lanka, Ecuador, Thailand, Costa Rica, Australia and Hawaii.

Contact 'Responsible Travel', 'Biosphere Expeditions', 'The Global Volunteer Network', 'Wildlife Friends of Thailand', 'Hawaii Wildlife Fund', 'Earthwatch' and 'Exploration in Travel.'
