Photograph Collecting |
Written by Catherine Davis | |
Collecting photographs can be both a pleasurable aesthetic pursuit and an investment. The visual images that appeal to us reflect our individual tastes, and forming a collection may itself be viewed as a creative act which allows for personal expression. Many photograph collections are based on a particular period, theme, style or genre that the collector finds interesting and enjoys researching – a certain fashion perhaps, musical instruments or old churches. This is a hobby that offers plenty of scope. Black and white or colour, old or contemporary, collecting photographs enables you to assemble your own unique archive of the age in which we live or a previous era. Each picture tells a story, not only about the subject and the photographer but you and how you found it. Check out the growing number of on line auction houses and web sites as well as antique shops, flea markets, fairs and art galleries.
