Saving Heat at Home
Written by Catherine Davis

There are plenty of measures that you can take to make your home more ecologically friendly and help to protect the environment. Here are some suggestions on saving heat:

1.Seal all leaky doors and windows and close the curtains at dusk to prevent heat escaping.

2. If your windows need replacing, fit double glazing.

3. Increasing the depth of your loft insulation to at least 20 cm could reduce heat loss through your roof by 25 percent.

4. A third of all building heat is lost through walls. Cavity wall insulation is easy and cheap and even solid walls can be insulated either indoors or outside.

5. Turning down the thermostat by 1 deg C can save up to 10 percent on your annual heating bill.

6. Replacing an old central heating boiler with a new condensing type could cut your bills by more than 20 percent.
