Scuba Diving |

Scuba diving is an absorbing sport that frees the mind, stimulates the senses and takes you away from it all to new places. Since no two dive trips are the same, it's also a continuing adventure. While the obvious lure is coral reefs and tropical oceans, there are also fresh water, quarry and beach dives closer to home. Anyone can learn to scuba dive so long as they are reasonably fit and able to swim 200m. Some people are apprehensive at first, but rising to the challenge can be hugely rewarding and a great confidence builder. Initial training takes place in local swimming pools or shallow water to accustom you to the gear. Even when qualified, you'll be with a diving buddy or buddies to share the experience and give help if needed. Both PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors), and BSAC (British Sub Aqua Club) offer scuba diving courses. Dive clubs also organise trips and overseas holidays. For a more immediate way to explore underwater try snorkelling, which requires just a snorkel, mask and fins.
