Mountain BikingWhile mountain bikes are used in urban settings, they are more commonly associated with off road cycling and rougher terrain.

Enjoyed by all ages, mountain biking can be a gentle, relaxed activity or an exhilarating, physically demanding sport. The most popular form of mountain biking is riding trails through fields and forests. For the more adventurous, there is cross country or downhill mountain bike racing. 'Freeride' offers the challenge of tougher tracks, steeper climbs and descents, and mountain bike trials entail jumping the bike over obstacles.

Riding a mountain bike is a great way to get into shape and stay healthy. It builds stamina, pumps the cardiovascular system, develops the leg muscles and burns calories.

While mountain biking can be an individual pastime, you may prefer to ride with members of a group or club, especially on longer treks. Mountain bike training courses are a sociable way to gain or improve your bike handling skills and learn about maintenance and repair.

Mountain biking makes an excellent basis for activity breaks and touring holidays, and there are plenty of opportunities to take part in races and competitions.
