Facial Skin Care

The skin is the body's largest organ, and taking care of it can make us both look and feel better. A nutritious diet with plenty of omega 3 fatty acids and vitamins, sufficient sleep and not smoking are all important contributors towards a healthy complexion.

A daily regime of cleansing, toning and moisturising using skin care products that are suited to your skin type (oily, normal/combination, dry or sensitive,) promotes smooth, supple skin. A gentle scrub or 'exfoliation', and/or applying a face pack once a week can also improve skin's appearance by removing the layer of dull, dead cells from the surface and giving it a new glow.

Most dermatologists agree that wearing everyday sunscreen can combat premature ageing, and many moisturisers now have an inbuilt protection factor (SPF). Antioxidants may also protect skin from the damage caused by UV rays and air pollution.

As far as other anti-ageing products go, you may wish to look out for the following ingredients: Peptides, AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) or fruit acids, retinoids, vitamin A and vitamin C. In theory, creams containing these substances should work to some degree by boosting circulation, cell turnover and collagen production. The fact remains however, that lifestyle has the greatest impact on the ageing process.
